Burglary Arrest:
On May 17th at 3:40 am, officers responded to the 400 block of Connecticut on a call of a possible burglary in progress. They met with a witness who told them that he heard noises coming from outside of his home, looked out the window and saw his neighbors’ garage door opened with a suspect walking out from inside the garage. The arriving officers found the garage door still open. As they were conducting their investigation, the garage door would begin to close and then open again seemingly on its own several times. One of the officers looked down the street and noticed a parked car nearby with the windows all fogged up. Finding this odd, the officer approached the vehicle to investigate. He found a subject inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle, ducking down in an attempt to avoid detection. The suspect was detained. As he was removed from the car, the officer found a garage door opener directly underneath him. The suspects’ shifting on top of the garage door opened was what caused the garage door to keep going up and down while the officers were inside.
The vehicle that the suspect was found in did not belong to him and appeared to have been broken into. The officers located the owner of the vehicle who confirmed that the car had in fact been boosted. The suspect was positively identified by the witness and was placed under arrest. A vehicle inside the garage in question had also been burglarized. The suspect had multiple items of property that had been stolen out of the garage in the back seat of the vehicle he was found in. Other items in the car could not be identified by any of the residents of the apartment house. Fortunately this stolen property was also accompanied by ID cards, utility bills, and miscellaneous paperwork in the names of multiple individuals. Through their investigation, the officers were able to locate and speak with at least eight victims whose cars had been broken into earlier that night. The victims were able to identify the property that had been stolen from their respective vehicles, which were all boosted in the nearby area. The suspect, a convicted felon on parole for burglary as well as an arrest warrant for burglary, was booked on numerous counts of burglary, auto burglary, warrants as well as a parole violation at Bayview Station.
